Balkan Yataghan Sword - Ottoman
An interesting and unusual Ottoman Yataghan probably from Serbia, or Southern Europe. The blade of very high quality flexible steel with the back edge sharpened nearly to the hilt where it joins the spine with a yelman. The blade is deeply stamped on one side with a European mark, three stars below a crown above the letter 'L'. It is possible this was a sword used by a specific military regiment possibly in Dalmatia or Genoa. The hilt of horn decorated and strapped with finely engraved silver. Age wear, probably late 18th century.
